Mini-Review: Sick
A horror movie taking place during the height of the pandemic could have been interesting. Add to that Kevin Williamson, the writer of "Scream," and this should have been a movie I enjoyed. I did not enjoy the majority of "Sick."
Two college students spend part of the lockdown at a massive cabin at a lake. A killer stalks and tries to kill them.
I usually do not say outright if you, the reader, should watch this, but don't waste your time with this. I am only writing about it because I have a better twist ending than the movie provided.
So, here it is. The movie's twist is that the killer turns out to be the parents of a boy one of the girls made out with. He got COVID and died, so they are out to kill anyone at the party (or something like that, I zoned out). At one point, they catch the girl who made out with their son and tie her up. They gave her an at-home test (which I am not sure was widely available in April 2020), and she came up positive; it turns out she was asymptomatic. What I think would have been better was to have the test come up negative, and all this killing be for nothing. I think that would have made the movie just a little more interesting.
There were no interesting kills and no real sense of dread to make it tense or scary. It was a bad horror movie and a bad movie in general.
3/10
Rated R for strong violence, terror, language throughout and some drug use
