Random Rambling: Streaming TV

Multiple entertainment companies have made huge announcements about new content in the past few weeks. I have watched every Marvel, Star Wars, and DC show that has been put out, and I have been let down by many of them. You would think I would be excited about all this new content, but I am just exhausted by it.

A few weeks ago, Disney held Star Wars Celebration and announced a bunch of new "Star Wars" movies and television shows. About a week ago HBOMax, now just called MAX, announced a slew of new shows, including a "Harry Potter" series and a new "Game of Thrones" spinoff, to name a few.

When it comes to TV shows, I have a rule that I give a bad show five episodes before I bail on it. In the streaming era, I need to revise this rule. Most streaming shows are only ten episodes long, so if I have watched five episodes, I have already watched half the season. Finishing the season is less of a commitment than the typical network season of 24 episodes.

My new rule, which will apply to most of these announced shows, is to wait. That can be until the season ends or the buzz is overwhelmingly positive. Since we live in a time when the studios tend to go with name recognition over quality (see my review of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie), it is time to update my rule to reflect the age of streaming.
